Formerly the Clipper Odyssey, the Silver Discoverer was acquired by Silversea Cruises to be its eighth vessel and third expedition ship. The ship went through extensive refurbishment inside and out, including repainting its hull to reflect Silversea Expedition’s dark blue colours. The Silver Discoverer entered service on 01 March 2014 and debut with itineraries around Australasia.
Silver Discoverer has been expertly engineered to maximise exploration in the most isolated archipelagos of the Pacific. Her small size and shallow draft allow close-up access to rugged coasts well beyond the reach of ordinary vessels. Since many of their expeditions sail to some of the world’s most pristine coral reef systems, there will also be a glass-bottom boat for underwater viewing along with a full complement of snorkelling equipment and a dive programme for advanced divers.
The Silver Discoverer will spend a significant amount of time in New Zealand, visiting our sub-Antartic islands as well.
Her clientele is said to be distinct from that of Silversea’s classic product, and is currently selling very well amongst Australians keen for soft adventure and exotic destinations, yet with a dose of onboard luxury.
